Q&A with Alexiss

What are you up to now?

I’m currently a digital designer and development creative for Weller Media Agency, a full service digital agency specializing in the music, entertainment, and lifestyle spaces. Within my role, I’m tasked with coding, developing, and creating websites as well as designing graphic assets. These assets range from static social content, motion graphics, lyric videos, cutdowns, templates, filters, flyers, logos, illustrations, you name it. Essentially any and everything you can think of creatively for artists and their brands, I’m probably doing it!

What’s something you still carry with you from your time at MOXIE?

The idea of maximizing my potential. One thing Moxie always did was push me because the team believed in me! I learned to think bigger creatively: Don’t just create one version, try a bunch because you never know what people will like. You never even know if you will surprise yourself! I can create one asset and think it’s good, then try making another completely out of my comfort zone. The extra version sometimes is what people gravitate to. So even now, I won’t just deliver one version of something. I’ll always deliver 2 or 3+ options and that’s become a signature for me! Also, that I can do anything I put my mind to with just a little learning, even if that means I have to do it alone. In the words of a wise woman (Vannesia Darby), “One duck doesn’t stop the show.” 😂

How did the internship shape you personally or professionally?

I was more than prepared by the time I joined my digital agency, simply through everything MOXIE taught me. So much so that when I interviewed, the Nashville team for my company that was already familiar with MOXIE knew that I was capable. We use Slack just like MOXIE. I already understood the automated processes for social, because of the Hootsuite experience I got during MOXIE. I breezed through Instagram story cards, because I used to be up before class creating them for RCA Inspiration through MOXIE. I can create newsletters of any kind, because MOXIE taught me Mailchimp. All of the things I still do today in my career, I attribute to everything that I absorbed through listening, learning, and applying myself at MOXIE.

What’s been the biggest highlight of your journey since then?

One of the biggest highlights would have to be being able to do an animated artwork for G Herbo’s single. Being from the Chicagoland area and being inspired by so many of our talented artists to pursue the career I’m in, it felt like such a monumental moment for me. I also was able to complete some social skins for him which felt so full circle because I learned about them through Moxie!

Looking back, what did being part of MOXIE mean to you?

MOXIE meant everything and it still does. Being a part of MOXIE gave me a plethora of skills that have become integral to my character as a designer. It showed younger me the possibility of achieving my dreams, because I saw Vannesia do it. It instilled in me the drive to push my creative boundaries. I also got to work alongside the best people ever and gain great connections and relationships, and some personal clients as well! MOXIE provided me with every tool I needed to succeed within my career and for that it means the world to me.

“MOXIE instilled in me the drive to push my creative boundaries.
